pioneers, Dr. William Fife! Caroline’s interest in undersea medicine began at a
tender age. As a 14 year old she served very ably as a support diver diving the
Hydro Lab seabed laboratory studies, in the Bahamas Islands. Her post-graduate training
included residency in Family Medicine, and a two-year fellowship in Environmental and Hyperbaric Medicine
at Duke University Medical Center. Additional didactic training in undersea medicine
included the NOAA course, and practical experience included the on-site DMO for
the National Geographic/Institute Of
Nautical Archaeology sponsored excavation of the
Kas wreck, in Turkey. Caroline took over the hyperbaric facility at
Herman Hospital and assumed her present appointments beginning in 1990. She is board
certified in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, and in Family Practice.
Caroline is a past president of the Undersea
and Hyperbaric Medical Society, was inducted into
The Woman Divers Hall of Fame as an inaugural member, serves as a key
resource in the wound healing field and is a frequently sought speaker on all things
